Hi, am currently in the process of paying for a new bearded dragon set up , its costing me £270 in total, here's what it includes

45" x 24" vivarium
25kg Sand (wont be using this till my dragon is at least 6 months old)
Slate
Thermometer
UV screw in bulb (which i asked to change to a uv tube upon reading posts on this forum)
Ceramic bulb (100 watt) << (this is what am confused about because i have been reading about people using basking lights ?, are they better than ceramic bulbs ? , my brother in law uses one with his dragon and he seems happy )
Beapher vitamins
Bearded Dragon

my main question is do i need a basking light ?, if so doess this have to be turned off after 12 hours like the UV tube ? , my brother in law has his ceramic bulb on 24/7 on a thermostat...

Sorry for the noob questions , rather ask now before i get my set up...

:D

A basking light is better as the beardie is attracted to bright light as it would the sun in its natural habitat, and you turn it off as you would your uv light, i just have mine set on a timer 10-12hr winter time 12-14hr summer time. the ceramic ones are best used to keep the overnight temperature up if needs be.

Everything including heating, UV and any other items should be turned off at night allowing the temps to drop to around 16C as they do require temperature drops whilst sleeping.
