Your beardie should be able to get within 6 to 8 inches of the uv at the highest point. How big is your viv and how far is the uv tube from the floor?

hi ..we was chattin in other post bout this...but viv is 24in high and uv strip is now(cus i lowered it)8 inches away from beardie at highest point.

Hi guys I am posting this as a warning always get a second opinion on any "advice" u receive from pet shops.

My poor lil lady has MBD in her back legs all due to being told that my basking bulb was a uv bulb to!

Hopefully with the correct bulb and calcium more often hopefully she will be ok but I have been told that her legs may never be quite right but I can hopefully stop it getting any worse!! I was heartbroken when my herp vet told me that this could have been prevented by exposure to UV light something that was so simple.

So please let my story be a warning to you always get a second opinion.

Another warning about pet shops.

I trusted that my local pet shop would supply me with the right equipment, but sadly, they didn't. I needed a replacement uv bulb and they ordered me a 5%. I told them this wasn't enough, so they re-ordered me a 10%. But my boy started to get more and more withdrawn and stopped eating, looked puffy eyed and wouldn't get up in the morning. When I phoned the exotics shop where I got him they told me the type of bulb I had was rubbish. The bulb I had was an Exo-Terra Repti-glo 10%. The shop said this was a cheap version of the real thing, and that the uv-ness of these bulbs fades really quickly, despite their 1 year guarantee.

I'm off to South Coast Exotics tomorrow.

Actually Exo-Terra should be OK although ALL of the UV strips degrade pretty quickly and whatever is said should be replaced at around 6 months. The real problem ones are the Chinese knock offs!!

Well I'd love to think so, but my boy has picked up already since I put in the new Arcadia bulb - he's moving around, up and interested and eating at last. I'm not taking any more risks. x
