i can see the egg bulges in her tummy and felt them gently when i gave her a bath but she isnt showing any signs of wanting to lay them. Ive moved her to her own tank now and moved the tank to a quieter part of the house so she has privacy. She looks like a big bag of marbles now and shes still eating but not as much. Every so often she will run around like crazy clawing at the glass on her tank then she'll calm down again but no digging so im a bit worried why she doesnt want to lay them. Ive povided a lay box filled with a moist sand and vermiculite mix and left it in her tank and ive been dusting all her food with vitamins but how can i encourage her to lay the eggs. How soon after the eggs are visable are they ready to lay ?

Hi Jennie

If she is still eating she just isnt ready yet ... be patient

She is bound to be restless but a until she stops eating you can just continue to offer food and keep her as quiet as possible. I would also stop handling now for her and the eggs safety.

Ant.

It took about a week from Fi acting crazy to laying. And she didn't eat for the last couple of days as the eggs take up so much room they don't have room in their stomachs.

It's just when you're about to panic and think she's egg bound that she'll surprise you!

What temp is the laying box at and how deep is the sand? They are very fussy over these things, I know ours don't like anything cooler than around 28C and about 15 cm + deep.

the temp of the sand is about 25 c and its about 12cm deep i have put a bulb above it to keep it warm for her
she has totally gone off her food today i cant get her to eat anything and she looks really sad i feel sorry for her constantly clawing at the glass .Her tummy has got even bigger and the eggs are very noticable now as a row of bumps along both her sides
ive been just leaving her to it and only going in her tank to give her fresh food and water so i hope she lays soon

They do go off food a couple of days before laying - the eggs squash the stomach so there's no room for food. Should mean in a couple of days you'll find eggs.

I remember Fi ignored the laying box until the end - I found it helped by starting a tunnel in it with my hand. She just enlarged that, but I think it gave her the idea.

I know how worrying it is the first time, you just have to hang on in there.
