im going to change to sand as substrate ! and was going to use play sand as a cheap option but was wondering how i go about drying it out quickly before putting it in the viv? i saw a viv using sand and it look's really good so this swayed me into the change , also how often would i have to change the sand ? as at the min im using wood chipping's and i change it quite often ! also iv'e seen some nice flat sandstone rock's to put in as well ...

Dry it in the oven but remember that it'll be hot when it comes out! I change ours about every six months and in between it gets sieved regularly plus of course cleaning up droppings daily.

If you're using playsand you may even want to change it more frequently as it's so cheap.

right ok ! but what sand is better that last longer in the viv ? or is it a mixture of sand and some other element ? in the long run it's about saving money on substrate as the wood chipping's only last a few week's ! so im thinking that if i use sand or whatever it may be a bit more expensive but work's out cheaper in the long run as i wont have to replace it as often ! so any advice is welcome thank's rick . :)

Properly cleaned and sieved regularly sand will last 6+ months so costs really should be minimal.
