Hello everyone! I'm Paige and 3 days ago I purchased my first bearded dragon! I had read up for about 2 weeks prior to purchasing the vivarium and the heat sources and the light sources so I am hoping everything is spot on.

Lossie is around 6 months old I was told in the shop and is a little piggy, the day I bought her home I placed in there some rocket lettuce, grated carrot and little chunks of butternut squash. I also chucked in 2 brown crickets which were very quickly chased and eaten! I was told she may not eat for a few days and to my amazement she is eating almost everything I put in. Although she is avoiding her carrots... but LOVES her greens.

She is in a 4ft vivarium with a 10% UVB tube light and 100w intense basking spot bulb which the shop recommended. The basking spot area varies around 36 to 40c. At night everything gets turned off and the temp stays around 70F. I have some kitchen paper at the bottom at each end for the moment as I don't want to use sand. I have ordered some slate tiles which will be going in soon. Oh the cool end temps usually stay around 23c - 25c.

I am so glad I found this website as it seems everyone is going to be very helpful which is what I am looking for to calm my paranoia. :D
She is loving every second of being in her Viv I am hoping and is pooping every day which I think is a good thing?? As a newbie I am struggling a little with how many crickets to feed her... she was fed yesterday around 10 crickets but I am worried it is either not enough or to many... I am skipping a day today as I was told to as she is 6 months but just need a little guidance on amount of crickets.

Looking forward to my years with Lossie :)

Paige

I'd still be feeding her daily until around 12 months. They're still growing rapidly and need all the protein they can get so a daily feed of 10~15 crix should be good. If possible keep a check on her weight weekly just to see that she's keeping up a steady gain. Otherwise all looks good.

Hi Rick,

Ok I will feed her daily with crickets, I wasn't sure but she is a piggy and seems to enjoy everything I put in :)
I was also wondering about the supplementation? She has a pinch of calcium on her veg/crickets 5 times a week and vitamins twice a week? Is that suitable? I also feed her about 3 calci worms around 2 to 3 times a week to. Along with 5 mealworms every other day.

Thanks,

Paige

Cut back on the meal worms they're like lollies to dragons, fattening and addictive so they should only be used as treats. Calcium only needs be added once daily on the live food and extra vitamins weekly.
