As discussed in a previous post, I have started this post hoping that other people may have discovered helpful shops, or anything that may help with vivariums and bearded dragons.

I personally found the below very helpful and happy to listen and seem to care about the health and wellbeing of my pets, they dont just appear to be salespersons and took the time too discuss my set up, budget and position of my vivarium.

If anyone else has used this company and can prove me wrong im happy to remove this post, but I am going by the info ive discovered on here and my personal encounters, all be them very limited and a brief history with reptiles.

I hope this is of use.

Thanks

Russ

Their website is horrible (blue and yellow) but they are a good shop with knowledgeable staff.

I have also been told livefoodsdirect.co.uk for food, (obviously).

I have not used them yet but will give them a go, they have been recommended by friends in surrey, and also from the store i got Fred from.

Im sure a lot of you guys have either tried them or have your own, so if there are any others in the hampshire area or pet/reptile stores id be happy to visit them.

Thanks

Russ

Coletta & Tyson Garden Centre, Woodmansey, Beverley, East Yorkshire are really good. They have a reptile pet shop and the man that sells the reptiles is really good with advice etc. Be prepared though, he scopes you out when you want to buy one and if you don't know your stuff he will send you away until you do.

I've heard him many times challenging people about how they keep their reptiles and trying to give them advice on changing their setup. One lady was telling him how she kept her tortoise and even I knew she was keeping them wrong because I did some tortoise research a few months ago. She was insistant she was right because she'd read a book. He challenged her on the date of the book and said books were useless as they were outdated so quickly. She insisted her tortoise was happy, which he also disagreed with. The woman left in a huff, but to be fair, he was correct and was just trying to advise her that her tortoise shouldn't just be kept/left in a glass tank vivarium!

It wont be much help for all you northerners but these guys are really helpful.

South Coast Koi
77 Rumbridge Street
Totton
Southampton
SO40 9DT
Tel: +44 (0) 23 8066 7701
Email: sales@southcoastkoi.com

They have opened a reptile showroom in the past year and have a great selection including a croc. They seem to know their stuff and all the animals are housed correctly.

And yes they also sell Koi :)

cambridge reptiles

above petpaks in hardwick

a bit expensive but the guys in there know there stuff, thay teach at cambridge vet collage,

we got talking to the guy about dragons and he showed us how to sex them, on his breading pair, and then said if we have any concerns bring her in for a health check for free,

found out she had a slight infection in her tail from a nip that she got of her viv mate, before we rescued her, he put some suff on it and phoned the local reptile vet which is 2 doors down, he spoke to the vet and told him what was wrong and got her in there and then for a quick jab of antibiotics, didnt have to pay a consultation fee just the jab as the vet trusted the diagnosis.

they were using some verry big complicated words.

there website is still being developed and the shop is only small and expensive but with a free lesson in reptile care.

also thay wont sell you a reptile unless you can provide evidence of the set up you have in place and a basic knollage in the care of the reptile that you are wanting to buy.

Hi guys,

I've made this a "sticky" as the info. here is something that shouldn't disappear after only a few reads! People, please keep adding to this with your reasons for recommending the particular shop.

Rick

for those in the Blackpool, Lancashire, Northwest UK area.

I found reptile rooms in Cleveleys nr Blackpool great. They have a website google reptile rooms blackpool

Great advice, and are specialist in reptiles you'll find beardies as well as turtles, snakes, spiders and frogs and loads of other lizards and animals but you won't find a single dog or cat or anything a normal pet shop would sell.

cheers
steve

F.P Birnie's Petshop

http://birnies-petshop.co.uk/default.aspx

They have all kinds of pets including a rescue Reticulated which isn't for sale, a great reptile section that sells various snakes, lizards and amphibians.
Andrew is the owner and is extremely helpful, he's a real reptile enthusiast, this is where I bought Gimli and a Royal Python.
Recommended by my reptile specialist vet :)
