Difference in sex

I was wondering if there is a difference in the sexes temperament wise.

Having children soon to be ten and seven, I was wondering if it would be advisable to have a female to avoid the whole adolescent male phase or whether females get the grump too..

We have a male beardie and he did go through the 'teenage grumpiness' at around 4 months old (and it lasted a couple of months!). To be honest, I'm not sure if females go through this - I am sure Rick will know! That said, it is very hard to sex beardies until they are older (in some cases nearly adult), so that tells me that there isn't that big a difference between male/female temprement wise.

I;m sure your children will love your beardie when you get him. My son was about 3 when we got ours. Beardies are very gentle creatures and are therefore great for children!

The females don't seem to get quite as grumpy - but picking a female younger than around 5~6 months is pretty tricky so just go with whatever looks good. They're easier to survive than the corresponding human teenager

Your problem is only due to the fact that you look after her properly  I must admit I'd forgotten about the egg laying episodes

Hmmmmm in a womens perspective a male should be easier then, the hormones last longer in our breed and we hold grudges for longer

I like to try and forget but it haunts me  I console myself with the fact she has a nice long sleep before that starts up again

My female is lovely - my male is a laugh as he is constantly giving me dirty looks as if to say 'give me food, you're starving me!'

Fiona never looks grumpy, and is always placid and cheerful. Shrek looks like he's got the hump most of the time!
